There's no time for the present.

I mentioned in a post last week that there are a few solo projects (other than Sucre) that I've been really into. I included some tracks on my mix this past Monday (and actually the Monday before that also) and here are a bit more details about the artists and albums!

Fear Fun by Father John Misty - Did you know that the former drummer from the Fleet Foxes had a solo project? I did not, until a coworker told me about it. This project is much edgier and more rock-influenced than Fleet Foxes. This album is all over the place, but I'm a fan. It's a mix of country-blues, classic rock and eccentric folk.

Standout tracks: Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings, Nancy From Now On and Only Son of A Ladies Man

Blunderbuss by  Jack White: The Racounteurs are alright and I didn't like the Dead Weather, so I wasn't anticipating this album to come out. I was indifferent about, until I heard Sixteen Saltines. Then I listened to the entire album. And then I listened again. It's really good. If you had doubts about Jack White's talent (which I will not lie, I did), this will prove you wrong.

Standout tracks - Missing Pieces, Sixteen Saltines, Blunderbuss and Love Interruption

Provincial by John K. Sansom: This whole album is about his homeland and unlike previous solo attempts, it's good and very similar to The Weakerthans. He is an amazing lyricist and the stories he tells are what sticks, no matter how many instruments are involved.

Standout tracks: Highway 1 West, When I Write My Master’s Thesis and Letter In Icelandic From The Ninette San

There you have it! The solo projects I have been enjoying. I actually meant to post this last week, because this week I have moved on (although I still love these albums of course) and have had The Menzingers on HEAVY rotation - I can't stop listening to their most recent album, On The Impossible Past. Perhaps I will write more about my love for that album (and punk rock) later.

How about you, what are you listening to?

ALSO! In other music news, No Doubt announced that their new album will be released on September 25th!!!! Who else is excited?!
